Hi everyone, here is my daily recap of the first day of AWS re:Invent 2021!
Create from anywhere: The Netflix Workstations story
We start this first day of re:Invent with a rather interesting talk presented by Netflix.

To enable their artists around the world, Netflix built Netflix Workstations, a secure way to access remote desktops and stream creative applications from any data center to any device. Artists can now access high-performing virtual workstations on AWS with the freedom to create no matter where they are. In this talk Michelle Brenner presented the technologies Netflix used to build their on-demand workstations, such as NICE DCV, Amazon EC2 G4 instances, Spinnaker, and Salt (SaltStack).
NICE DCV is also utilized by AWS Nimble Studio
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
To continue on our way I attend a small workshop on how to build an intelligent document processing solution for claims adjudication using Amazon Textract
You can see the architecture diagram in fullscreen here
Claims adjustment is a manual process performed by insurance companies under tight time pressure. The process is tedious, as claims forms have no standard template and can stretch over 100 pages. The Document Understanding Solution for Claims presents a means of automatically extracting the important information from these claims forms to help adjusters quickly adjudicate a claim and formulate a response. In this workshop, I discovered how the Document Understanding Solution for Claims uses Amazon Textract and Amazon Comprehend to extract important categories into a formatted template for adjusters to easily complete their work.
The subject was the claims adjustment but we can clearly adapt this workshop to many other use cases.
Continuous deployment with AWS CDK Pipelines

CDK Pipelines is a new AWS CDK construct that simplifies defining and building CI/CD pipelines for safely deploying software changes. In this builders’ session we learned how to effectively use CDK Pipelines to manage software releases.
It's the first time I attend a session with this format, it's quite friendly, we are all sitting around a table with the speaker who is doing the workshop at the same time as us
What's next ?
Tomorrow I plan to attend the following sessions
- SVS316: Serverless consumers for streaming workloads
- API301: Building event-driven architectures
- ARC302: Evolutionary AWS Lambda functions with hexagonal architecture
- ARC310: Build a live streaming platform: Amazon IVS and Amazon Chime SDK
See you tomorrow for the rest!
