Hi everyone, here is my daily recap of the second day of AWS re:Invent 2021!
For this second day of re:Invent it is a less busy day. Unfortunately, some of the sessions we were registered for were victims of their success. So I could not participate to the session "Building event-driven architectures".
If I can give you a piece of advice, it is to arrive 30 minutes before the beginning of the session if you have not been able to reserve a seat, that will maybe guarantee you a place!
Serverless consumers for streaming workloads
So I started my day with this session

It was a builders’ session and I learned how to use AWS Lambda with streaming services like Amazon Kinesis Data Streams and Amazon MSK. We get hands-on experience creating an ESM and employing the right error-handling techniques while using Lambda with streamin. A technically simple but quite well scripted session that went off in a great way. I also take the opportunity to introduce you to AWS MSK Serverless in public preview, a new type of Amazon MSK cluster that makes it easier for developers to run Apache Kafka without having to manage its capacity. MSK Serverless automatically provisions and scales compute and storage resources and offers throughput-based pricing, so you can use Apache Kafka on demand and pay for the data you stream and retain.
You can read more about AWS MSK here
Evolutionary AWS Lambda functions with hexagonal architecture
To continue in the serverless environment we participated in this session presented by Luca Mezzalira. A very enriching talk presenting the concept of hexagonal architecture with AWS Lambda.

Luca Mezzalira talked about ports and adapters architecture (hexagonal architecture), an architectural pattern used for creating loosely coupled application components that can be easily connected to their software environment. This makes components exchangeable at any level and facilitates test automation. During this breakout session, he explained us how AWS Lambda provides the virtually perfect environment to work with hexagonal architecture, allowing the flexibility to change the computational layer when porting across cloud services.
This talk will of course be replayed on the AWS Events Youtube channel.
If you want to know more about the hexagonal architecture with AWS Lambda I recommend you to read this article written by Luca Mezzalira.
Networking time
As I said, the day was not that busy with sessions. However, in the evening there was a networking event organized by the AWS Media & Entertainment team at the Wynn in a very nice restaurant, La Cave.
We joined Brad and Ludo, the president and CEO of TrackIt (the company I work for) and had the opportunity to meet other media players (FOX, Ateme, HBO, etc...) It was the first time I saw Brad, we took the opportunity to immortalize the moment.

What's next ?
Tomorrow I plan to attend the following sessions
- CMP402: Remote visualization for HPC applications with NICE DCV
- ARC401: Serverless SaaS deep dive: Inside a multi-tenant serverless solution
- SVS402: Serverless SaaS deep dive: Inside a multi-tenant serverless solution
- SVS401: Serverless SaaS deep dive: Inside a multi-tenant serverless solution
See you tomorrow for the rest!
